Photographing Laura & Dean’s Summer Wedding at Rivington Hall Barn
Rivington hall barn is an absolutely stunning venue, you really have to see it to believe it. It is a beautifully constructed wood barn which actually dates back to the late 18th century, and was used to house troops and the ministry of food in world War II. The hall itself dates back to 1477 and was owned by the pilkington family. My photographer friends have always told me amazing things about shooting weddings here, and I was delighted when I finally got the opportunity to work there and capture all the special moments from Laura & Dean’s big day.
The setting is amazing and made for incredible photos. We did have to give the bride a fireman’s lift to get over the fence into the gorgeous fields surrounding the barn, but the imagery we managed to capture was stunning and well worth the effort!
A Sunny English Wedding
Laura & Dean got married during the heatwave of 2018 Summer, and in the North West of England it was an absolute treat. Normally I tell my couples not to be too concerned about the weather because even our summers are fraught with rain, but in this case I had to make sure everyone was wearing sunscreen! the mercury hit 30 degrees during the daytime and there were a few guests looking rather uncomfortable in their three piece suits – and as I always wear a full suit to a wedding, I was one of them!
My second shooter on the day, John Nelson, found an absolute cracker of a backdrop as the evening pulled in and the sun got low in the sky. Just to the right of the barn is a gorgeous patch of trees, and the sun was just at the perfect angle to diffuse through the foliage, casting the most beautiful backlight on our Bride and Groom.
A Summer Wedding at Rivington Hall Barn
On the morning of the wedding, I chilled out with Laura as she and her bridesmaids got ready at a local hair salon, then it was back to the house to get into the dress. John my second cameraman went to see Dean at his house and took some photos of Dean, his groomsmen and family. We walked across the road to the local church in Whitefield for a lovely ceremony and then it was off to Rivington Hall Barn to get the celebrations going.
The rest of the day was full of dancing, drinking, fantastic speeches. It even saw the appearance of my legs when I dawned my wedding shorts as the temperatures soared!
I loved being Laura & Dean’s Rivington Hall Barn wedding photographer and am looking forward to getting back there soon.
